Meet the Director

Steve Prothero (Prawthۢ-ur-o) began as a volunteer at the Keizer Community Library in the spring of 2009, shortly after he retired from a 46 year career as a professor of mathematics and golf coach at Willamette University. He continues to pursue interests in golf, biking, cross-country skiing and reading.
Steve and his wife Marylin are both educators and have been married for more than fifty years. She continues to teach English as a Second Language at Chemeketa Community College. They have two daughters and three grandchildren.
Before accepting the position of Library Director in September of 2011, Steve initiated, supervised, and, in large measure performed, the automation of the library’s resources and circulation.
Steve is “excited about our soon-to-be-expanded library. It will allow us to shelve more materials, expand our computer services, and create reading and study areas for adults as well as children and young adults. We are currently trying to expand our volunteer base in hopes of increasing our evening hours from one to four nights per week"
