Current Volunteer Opportunities at the Keizer Community Library
LIBRARY MANAGER. Committees, together with the Board of Directors, basically operate the Library, but we need a Library Manager with good people skills to help us stay on course, work with the volunteer work force, monitor activities and act as a conduit for information. There are specific items included in the job description, however they are mostly items that can be delegated. The time commitment is approximately 10 to 15 hours a week and flexible hours to accommodate your schedule. No previous library experience is necessary. Training will be provided!
CIRCULATION DESK. Volunteers in this position meet and greet patrons, check items in and out, accept donations, assist patrons with computers and other issues, shelve media as well as keep the library clean and presentable. This position is usually a 3-hour shift once a week. Volunteers work in pairs.
BOOK SALES. The library has two fundraising book sales a year, one during the Iris Festival (May) and another in the fall (October). We need volunteers who can help set up for the sale, assist patrons during the sale, and package books not purchased for storage.
MEET THE AUTHOR COORDINATOR. This is the perfect volunteer opportunity for someone who is self directed, pays attention to details and would enjoy contacting and working with a variety of authors to schedule reading and book signing events 4 -6 times per year.
CHILDREN’S PROGRAM. Our young patrons need Story Time. The library is looking for an experienced volunteer(s) to provide and coordinate weekly Story Times; days and times are flexible. Other volunteer activities include assisting with periodic events such as Lego Night, facilitating children’s book clubs or assisting with the Summer Reading Program.
FUNDRAISING. We need volunteers with experience in applying for grants to help the library identify funding sources, writing grant applications and soliciting sponsorships. Fundraising is necessary to help keep our doors open and to provide services to our patrons.
COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP. A Board of Directors manages the Library utilizing a committee structure, which supports the operational and long-term functioning of the Library to effectively carry out its mission. Community members are welcome to apply for Board and/or committee membership. Committee volunteers provide the planning and oversight of library activities. Below are a few of the committees seeking additional membership:
- The Volunteer Management Committee
- The Children’s Committee
- The Finance Committee
- The Promotions and Marketing Work Group
- The Information and Technology Work Group
- The Patrons Management Committee
- The Collections Management Committee
If you are interested in any of the above, visit the Library to pick up a Volunteer Application Form, or you can click here for the Volunteer Application Form - you can print it, fill it out, and drop it by the Library.
Volunteers who have regular access to Library patrons and Board members must also complete a criminal background check.
We look forward to having you join our volunteer team!
